A library of functionalist style designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto was built in the Torkkelinpuisto park in Vyborg in 1934 and opened to public in 1935. It is known for its soft but efficient natural light and unique atmosphere. The library was designed for children, too: they can reach all the hand rails and door handles. After Vyborg became part of the Soviet Union, the library started to deteriorate. It is now experiencing new golden age after 20 years of international restoration completed in 2013.
