The title vase of Alvar and Aino Aalto was originally called Savoy after a restaurant in Helsinki. Its working title was “Eskimo woman’s lederhosen”. Inventiveness shows in the glass mold. Molds made of alder by hand enable free form in glassblowing – glass does not stick to a wet mold.
