Aukusti Tuhka designed and Kultakeskus Oy fabricated the Olympic Flame torch of silver and curly birch. It was carried in relay from Olympia, Greece, to the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki. At the opening ceremony, the flame was carried and lit by Paavo Nurmi, ”The Flying Finn”. The Olympic Games gathered 5,000 athletes from 69 countries. Most victories went to the United States while the Soviet Union was second in the statistics.
