Author Juhani Siljo fought in the Finnish civil war with the Whites and died of his battle wounds at 30 years of age. Author Algot Untola, also known as Maiju Lassila and Irmari Rantamala, died fighting for the Reds. Juhani Siljo’s poetry and aphorism collection “Into Clear Water” (Selvään veteen) was published one year after his death. One of the aphorisms says: “I am as inclined to feel hate as I am to feel love. But I don’t consider it my fault if this life is inclined to provide more fuel to my hate than to my love.”
