Tove Jansson’s Moomin characters were introduced to an international audience already in 1956 when the Moomins made by Atelier Fauni was presented in a joint exhibition of the Nordic capitals in Copenhagen. Founder of Atelier Fauni, artist Martti Kuuskoski made the first Moomin dolls approved by Jansson together with Helena Kuuskoski. Jansson wrote the first Moomin book, The Moomins and the Great Flood (1945), during the Winter War. After that Jansson published a book every few years until the 1980s. She also wrote prose for adults. In 1976, Tove Jansson’s life companion Tuulikki Pietilä started to build miniature pageants of the Moomins. Tuulikki was assisted by Tove, Pentti Eistola and Tuulikki's mother Ida.
