Nordic walking was developed in the 1970s to help skiers train in the summer. In 1997, Exel Oy launched the first poles on the market, and the concept of Nordic walking was born. Pole walkers can be seen in the middle of the city, too. The pole then has padding in its tip to muffle the touch with asphalt.
