Urho Kekkonen started his fifth term as the President of Finland in 1978. In total, he was our president from 1956 to 1981. The President had exclusive prerogative at that time, based on which as well as by relying on his persona Kekkonen was able to maintain a close relationship with the leaders of the Soviet Union.
