Box library collected by the Workers' Educational Association WEA of Finland toured the logging sites of Lapland and North Karelia in the 1970s. Lumbermen got to read both fiction and non-fiction. Among other books, the box included “Before and After 1918” (Ennen ja jälkeen 1918) published by the Civil War Memorial Association in 1972 and Sol Stein’s novel The Husband published in 1970. The first People’s Libraries were founded in Finland in the 19th century. Finns rank among the top library users in the world. Filled with books from top to bottom, mobile libraries i.e. book buses tour suburban and rural areas across Finland, stopping by at daycare centres, schools and nursery homes in the cities, too.
